The Drums – “How It Ended”
If there was one word to describe the sound of The Drums it would be “drive”. In one way, it would describe the band’s work ethic, pushing out back-to-back albums the last two years and constant touring. Musically, the drive comes from the push The Drums rely on from bouncy bass lines and forward-seeking percussion. There’s a new wave influence that creeps into The Drums’ music, but it’s less in a morose Smiths way than it is upbeat and catchy. The band has a renewed sense of energy on last year’s Protamento, a record with a fuzzier and more distant sound than its predecessor. The Drums have graduated from “buzz band” status to a solid offering at any festival.
