The stage at Downsview Park in Toronto has collapsed, leaving one dead and at least three injured, according to Canadian news services.
The evening’s show was set to be a sold-out Radiohead concert.
It was reported that the collapse happened around 4pm- an hour before doors were to open, meaning that none of the victims were audience members.
Radiohead posted a tweet stating: “Due to unforeseen circumstances tonight’s at downsview park tonight has been cancelled. Fans are advised not to make their way to the venue.”
Downsview Park’s update on their Facebook page: ”Radiohead concert canceled. There has been an incident, more details forthcoming.”
CNN has since confirmed the victims were stage crew members setting up for tonight. Though this is incredibly sad news, the situation could have been catastrophic if it happened in the middle of a sold-out crowd. By no means does that make it any less heartbreaking of course, especially for those involved. We wish them fast recovery, and peace to those lost + the best to their loved ones in this tragic situation.
